For help when work has become difficult

Practical employment support for adults facing challenges at work related to health, disability, caring responsibilities, workplace problems or career / role change.

A work problem can quickly become a health, financial and confidence problem too. You may be unsure what to say, concern about a meeting, struggling to make an adjustment work, or torn between staying, changing role or leaving.

How ERMC can help:

Clarify the problem and the outcome you need

Work out what is actually happening, what needs to change, what is within your influence and what a realistic, sustainable outcome would look like.

Prepare for important meetings and processes

Plan for conversations with a manager, HR or Occupational Health, and for a return-to-work, sickness absence, performance, capability, flexible-working or other formal processes.

Make adjustments and requests more workable

Identify barriers and possible adjustments involving workload, hours, role design, communication, equipment, environment or support. Present the request clearly, with the practical and business implications addressed.

Help with written and spoken communication

Prepare or review emails, meeting notes, adjustment requests, summaries and supporting documents.

Support with change

We can help you to think through a return to work, staying in a role, changing duties, redeployment, career direction or moving on. We can help with the practical risks and trade-offs before taking the next step, including job applications, mock interviews and help with LinkedIn.

When work support may be useful

  • Health, disability or caring responsibilities are affecting work, attendance, energy or performance.

  • You need reasonable adjustments or flexible working, but are unsure what to request or how to make the case.

  • Communication with a manager, colleague, HR or Occupational Health has become strained or confusing.

  • You are returning after illness, burnout, or a long absence and need a realistic plan.

  • You are preparing for a difficult meeting, review or formal process.

  • You are deciding whether to share something about your health or a diagnosis of neurodivergence.

Support can be a one-off consultation or a short, defined package may be privately funded, employer-funded or, where appropriate, supported through Access to Work.

Before the next meeting or major decision, make sure the clearest version of your case is on the table.

Send a brief outline of what is happening at work. We will tell you whether ERMC can help.

ERMC provides practical employment consultancy, mentoring and coaching. We do not provide legal advice or legal representation. Where specialist legal advice is needed, we will make that boundary clear.
